| Anybody have any suggestions for cards that would work well with Ghost Council of Orzhova in an EDH deck? I already have him, but don't have many extended cards and i've never played EDH before. I was thinking something with tokens and/or life gain of some sort. Also, i don't want to spend a lot of money...any suggestions would help. | |

| Do you have an idea of what it might look like? Also, saying you have no extended cards makes it that much harder to make an edh deck. if you don't have any sets before current standard, you'll need a lot of help with making 100 cards happen. | |

| I beg to differ! You can find 100 different cards quite easily.... they just may not be very good cards.... (^_^) | |

| So....andrew and i totally just built the deck. Right now it looks a lot like a standard EDH deck but we're going to look for some more cards to make it better. We're basically gaining life and playing tokens.... | |

| The Ghost Council is one of my favorite cards of all time, but I don't know how good of a general it would be. It is one of only like two legendary creatures that are straight B/W though (the other being some angel from Legends I believe). If you do want to go with Ghost Council, then I have a lot of Orzhova cards from back in the Ravnica days that I can probably provide you with when I come home. Other than that, you're in good colors for removal. All of the white sweepers, Condemn, Damnation, etc. You can play Debtor's Knell, Yawgmoth's Will and all of the other recursion too since you can play the big white and black fatties (Yosei, the Morning Star, Avatar of Woe, Angel of Despair). You get Phyrexian Arena for nice card draw as well. | |

| I think that the Ghost Counsel is cool because you always have that answer for removal and when he comes back he does some damage, he's kind of hard to get rid of... | |

| yeah, what kurt and i did was a feeble attempt at making anything worthy of being called an EDH deck...we haphazardly threw cards together in a few minutes, unfortunately realizing we have absolutely no knowledge of the format, and no resources to be successful...of course, we'll eventually improve gradually...we'll see what we can trade for or hear suggestions this friday, and if one of us shows up, this sunday | |

| A lot of good extended/legacy cards for EDH are relatively cheap. It might be worth your time to just do a search on the gatherer at magicthegathering.com for old cards that seem BA and do some price checks. For example Serra Avatar; $10 might seem a lot for an old non-standard card, but it's not bad when you consider it can be a 7 mana 40/40, she's even better with Lightning Greaves. | |

| Serra Avatar is definitely a badass...i just don't know how the whole format is played, so kurt and i don't know if we just fill the deck with badass cards or what...any other suggestions of awesome cards that would be a good investment on our part? | |

| Yeah I can pretty much cover your entire removal foundation
Wrath of God + Day of Judgment Hallowed Burial (Puts Generals on bottoms of libraries!) Oubliette (look it up...sick against generals) Oblivion Ring and Journey to Nowhere (Generals) Condemn (Generals) Rout Mass Calcify Damnation Syphon Mind Syphon Soul Persecute Noxious Vapors Vindicate Decree of Pain Akroma's Vengeance Austere Command Avatar of Woe Catastrophe Forced March
A deck of all badass cards is fine IMO. You really don't even have to worry about converted mana cost that much, in fact, high mana cost is probably better (assuming higher casting spells are better) because at 40 life and multiplayer you're going to get plenty of time to build a wall of defense or offense.

| i would probably include token generators like bitterblossom and all the other obvious token generators. you could even work out some fun stuff with angelic chorus + sanguine bond if you were to include your general in the actual theme of the deck, as an example.
what do you hope to accomplish, andrew? that probably helps a little with the foundational stuff with the deck.
