Yes...it'll be regular standard and Rise becomes standard legal next week.

| as it stands, yes, i am interested in going. i wouldn't mind actually testing for this one but i understand if people are busy. i might have stumbled onto something rogue-ish i want to play that might be effective. however, it needs to be tested against jund and u/w control variants first. let me know if anybody who is going wants to test. | |

| Subject: Deck I'm running Sun May 09, 2010 5:07 am | |
| I'm planning on running this at the tourney:
Creatures: x25 4x Birds of Paradise 4x Hellspark Elemental 4x Hell's Thunder 3x Ball Lightning 2x Goblin Ruinblaster 4x Bloodbraid Elf 4x Vengevine
Instants: x8 4x Lightning Bolt 4x Staggershock
Planeswalkers: x3 3x Garruk Wildspeaker
Lands: x24 4x Rootbound Crag 2x Raging Ravine 8x Forest 10x Mountains
Sideboard: x15 4x Great Sable Stag 4x Cunning Sparkmage 3x Basilisk Collar 2x Master of the Wild Hunt 2x Goblin Ruinblaster
I only got the chance to play one constructed tourney with it at FNM, but it did split for 1st. I really liked how the deck played, but I felt like Garruk was making it clunky. Do you think this deck would be better off main decking the Cunning Sparkmage package (-3 Garruk, -2 Goblin Ruinblaster, -2 Staggershock +4 Cunning Sparkmage +3 Basilisk Collar). I feel like the combo is really good against Bant/Vampires/White Weenie/Elves, but only ok against Jund/U/W Control.

I feel like the combo is really good against Bant/Vampires/White Weenie/Elves, but only ok against Jund/U/W Control. i think the combo is good and you're probably right about garruk being clunky. i just dont't know if you should outright maindeck that or not. at least if it means weakening on some other stuff. playing that grixis midrange list i was playing, maindecking ruinblasters is really dirty. everybody has them in their sideboards but when you rob game one on the back of timely land destruction, those are dividends that are hard to quantify. so, the problem with what i am suggesting is there is the distinct possibility that the meta will be full of u/g polymorph and u/w and/or u/r/w control lists. suddenly, jund isn't the prettiest belle at the ball. so, i don't know. if you could, what would you replace garruk with if not sparkmages?

| I've cut Hellsparks out of pretty much every RDWish build I've put together lately in favor of the Dragonlord or Kiln Fiend, simply because Hellspark gets stopped cold by Wall of Omens -- which is everywhere and I don't expect that to change for Regionals. Also, Birds seems meh in your build with how low your curve is. Goblin Guide is still really good and i would probably put him in that spot over the BoPs. | |

| I think I would like to go to this. Allthough I don't think my Open the Vaults deck will cut it. Any suggestions/ help appreciated... I'd be interested if anyone needed a tester too. | |

I'd be interested if anyone needed a tester too. actually there is a pro vaults list or two kicking around standard tournaments these days. i'll send you a private message with the relevant lists.

| yeah, i think the addition of prophetic prism really helps the deck. the more card drawing effects, the better. the list with a copy of both jaces i don't like. but i don't play the deck, so i can't really say. i just know it seems suspect. i've been horribly ill all weekend, so i don't think i will be around tomorrow night or anything. the single dispeller's capsule in the 7th place list is almost certainly for discouraging mythic bant. i think you aren't too far off thinking about going with open the vaults. i am going to assume that the u/w matchup is kind of difficult but i can't really say. | |
